The Work of the Philadelphia Trust in

  • Bible teaching in Assemblies, youth and leadership conferences and on camps.
  • Pastoral work for local workers.

Graham and Amaryllis Stock, Mark and Rachel Bartlett and Roger and Susan Brind support the work in Romania.

In the past year, Graham has visited the Assembly in Oradea twice. On the first occasion it was for a weekend of seminars relating to Christian living. He asked the questions – What Have I done?  Where am I?  Where am I Going?  It was a challenging time and many appreciated the weekend. On the second occasion Amaryllis accompanied him and they conducted a week of meetings concentrating on family matters. The young people enjoyed it so much that, on the final day, they arranged seminars for all the ladies in the fellowship with Amaryllis and the men met with Graham to hear the things we had been discussing. It was most interesting and beneficial.

Roger led a four-day conference for church leaders in a centre near Cluj. He was asked to speak on practical lessons for church living based on Revelation 2 & 3. He prepared the lecture programme and discussion programme. The days were long and intense but were clearly of benefit as Roger has been asked to arrange another conference in January of next year.

The assemblies in Oradea, Cluj, Makfalva, Borsec and Tirgu Mures were visited and these visits were a great encouragement. It was great to see the large numbers present and the large number of young people there. Many of the young people speak English and were ready to engage us in serious conversations about spiritual issues.

We were asked to lead the teaching in two summer camps for young people aged 18 – 30. Many in this age group are beginning careers in the caring, teaching and legal professions. The church leaders have no experience of these, because they were forbidden areas during communism and they have encouraged us to help the young people as they seek to find the pathway that the believers should follow.

Youth camp at Tarkany
Graham and Amaryllis led a camp in Tarkany for the young people from Oradea and Roger and Susan and Mark and Rachel led one for the Cluj young people in Balanbanya. Graham reports, “We got down to some serious study on various topics including looking at the Global Challenge that Christians face today and we felt that the Holy Spirit challenged some for the first time, while others are already serving the Lord in various ways and were encouraged. This youth group has great potential with a nucleus of spiritual young people, so please pray for real leaders to arise who can inspire others to serve the Lord.”

Roger and Mark report, “The camp took place high in the Carpathian Mountains close to the village of Balanbanya. The road to the large Chalet was so bad that the 5-mile drive from the main road took an hour. The scenery was spectacular. The young people invited some of their unbelieving friends and it was great to see their interest. We had many serious conversations with both believers and unbelievers. This group has tremendous potential with many of them potential leaders in society. Since returning home we have had a number of emails and invitations to continue our work with them. The group recognised that they need help in a number of ways:

  • Help with apologetics – many are in professional positions and are regularly asked to give an account of their faith.
  • Training for evangelism - they recognise that the world is changing very quickly and that they need to be equipped to be able to approach the people among whom they live.
  • Help with Bible study methods and with Bible teaching in general.
  • Help with counselling and guidance."
