Campfire in Frystak |
Graham and Amaryllis Stock, Mark and Rachel Bartlett, Roger and Susan Brind and Paul Thomas support the work in the Czech Republic.
The main focus of our work in the Czech Republic this year was the Family Camp in Frystak, Moravia and visits to Assemblies in the Prague area. |
Graham was in Prague for a series of seminars with the young people there in the late autumn of 2008. They were challenged as they looked at topics relating to Christian Living. They faced the questions – What have I done? Where am I? Where am I going? Graham reports, “This group was smaller than in Oradea but we had much discussion and were encouraged in our Christian lives.” |
Roger and Paul visited the Assembly in Sazava in July and had fellowship with the small group of believers there. It is good to see their desire to serve the Lord and to provide a little help. We do pray that the Lord will come in and bless all the effort made there for His glory. We know that a number in the fellowship there were the backbone of the clandestine literature works in what was Czechoslovakia during communism. We honour them for their courage and we feel a real responsibility to do what we can to help them in the changed situation post communism. |

Deep discussion after Bible teaching |
The camp in Frystak was one of the highlights of the year. Roger reports, “Daniel Szorad, a Christian business man from the east of the Czech Republic, has had a burden about family camps for sometime and invited us to lead the camp which he arranged in Frystak, not far from the University City of Zlin. Graham, Amaryllis and Paul joined with me and we led the week together. We had an excellent time with bible teaching every morning for the parents and teaching on the family each evening. At the same time we ran a programme for children. Daniel invited local children to come and a good number responded. This programme took place while the parents were in their sessions. Believers from the Assembly in Zlin joined us too. |

The week highlighted a number of issues. First, there are many believers struggling to work out how they can live for God. Many are faced with challenging business situations, some with strong challenges from atheism, which dominates the Czech Republic, others with the complete change in life style that Christians are called upon to live and others with the change in the situation in which the Assemblies now find themselves. We had many deep conversations during the week with younger and older believers who recognise the challenges and asked for help to find the pathway they should follow. One of the real problems is that many older believers have no experience of some of these issues in their own lives and are unable to give help and guidance. We would ask you to pray for believers with serious issues relating to moral principles in business, how to help people with wrecked marriages and relationships and how to be relevant in the world of the 21st Century. |
Second, there are opportunities in outreach. We were amazed when the local Catholic Church advertised our programme and invited children and adults to join with us. This announcement came largely through Daniel’s witness in the community but opened a door that we never expected. The need to be ready for these opportunities is a challenge we face. Please pray for the young people that we were able to speak to during the week and for the ladies who joined us for the bible teaching. |
Third, there are new opportunities and needs. We must plan for these in the future. We would value prayer for guidance and for others to work with us to the glory of God.”
It is also a privilege to spend time in one-to-one contacts with believers and to encourage them in their lives for the Lord. We have a particular burden to support Mirek and Olga Karbulova in Sazava, as well as our friends in the Assemblies in Prague and Zlin. |
