There are 39 assemblies in Poland and 28 fledgling works (preaching points) meeting in homes which are supported by the larger assemblies and brethren involved in other activities for the Lord. Poland is an ancient nation that was conceived around the middle of the 10th century. Its golden age occurred in the 16th century. During the following century, the strengthening of the gentry and internal disorders weakened the nation. In a series of agreements between 1772 and 1795, Russia, Prussia, and Austria-Hungary partitioned Poland amongst themselves.

The Bible School in Jastrzebie-Zdroj was estalished in 1979 and has
been led by Henryk Turkanik from
its inception.
Poland only regained its independence in 1918 only to be overrun by Germany and the Soviet Union in World War II. It became a Soviet satellite state following the war, but its government was comparatively tolerant and progressive. Labour turmoil in 1980 led to the formation of the independent trade union "Solidarity" that over time became a political force and by 1990 had won parliamentary elections and the presidency. Since then political power has swung between those who back “a socialist alternative” and “Solidarity” style thinkers every four years. Poland joined NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004.
The assembly work traces its roots back to the work of Edward Hamer Broadbent, a former editor of Echoes of Service, James Lees and other believers from the United Kingdom and elsewhere. They supported Jozef Mrozek, (junior and senior), Jozef Prower, Jan Mrozek, Stanislaw Krakiewicz and others in the development of a truly Polish led work, which began in 1909. Most of the assemblies are situated in the South of Poland, where the bible school is based. This has been in place for over 25 years and has a very fruitful ministry. More than 250 brethren have attended the four-year course.

This course runs for 15 weekends a year and all who attend are led through a programme of bible teaching and training. In 1979, workers involved with the Philadelphia Trust visited Poland and have been involved in visiting, teaching in the Bible School and supporting assemblies and assembly based works there ever since.
